The Italian fashion system changes its name: Confindustria Accessori Moda for “leather” and Confindustria Moda for “textile”

The presentation of “Sinergie in Movimento: The Italian fashion representation system changes its names” has concluded. Confindustria Accessori Moda, for the leather supply chain sectors (footwear, leather goods, fur, tanning) and Confindustria Moda, representing the textile, fashion clothing sector (starting from 1 January 2025)

The Italian fashion system changes its name: Confindustria Accessori Moda for “leather” and Confindustria Moda for “textile”

Vincenzo Marinese, Vice President for Organization and Relations with Territories and Categories of Confindustria, announced the new names of the two Federations within the Confindustria orbit - the two main industrial supply chains of the Made in Italy fashion sector.

The reorganization sees Confindustria Fashion Accessories bring together the associations representing the main sectors of the Italian leather supply chain and Confindustria Fashion to associate the entire textile, clothing and fashion supply chain, evolving from the previous name of Italian Fashion System. The production system represented by the two Federations generates a turnover of almost 100 billion euros in its entirety, employing more than 500.000 workers and including more than 50.000 companies. It should also be remembered that our country is the first exporter of textiles, fashion, accessories in the EU (and the 2nd in the world after China), with a trade balance that in 2023 exceeded 26 billion euros.

A decision in line with Confindustria's objectives to confirm the link between sectors and the parent company

The two Federations will continue to work together on shared themes, with common objectives and visions, while respecting the protection of the individual sectoral identities that distinguish them.

The areas of synergic intervention, already started and which will continue to see the Federations engaged also in 2025, concern:

  • The resolution of the dispute over the tax credit for research and development, aimed at ensuring greater legal certainty for Italian entrepreneurs.
  • Joint participation in the Lombardy Region Roundtable to combat gangmastering.
  • Training of young people and retraining of workers, fundamental for the development of specialized skills, indispensable in a constantly evolving market.
  •  The international promotion of Made in Italy fashion, an activity that expresses all its excellence, in the completeness and diversity of its offer.

The interventions of Marinese, Ceolini and Tamborini

Vincenzo Marinese, Vice President for Organization and Relations with Territories and Categories of Confindustria: “In such a delicate moment, focusing representation on clothing – with Confindustria Moda – and on accessories – with Confindustria Accessori Moda – is essential to support exports and small and medium-sized businesses. It is necessary to put our know-how at the center, because Made in Italy means done well. Our country has achieved an exceptional result in the export sector, also thanks to the uniqueness of Made in Italy products, conquering fourth place worldwide. Despite this, there are sectors, which represent our excellence, that must be strengthened. Representation, in this context, becomes essential with the support of businesses, with an active policy for growth, with the union of fiscal development policies in favor of a sector that is strategic for us”

Giovanna Ceolini, President of Confindustria Fashion Accessories: "As the new president of Confindustria Accessori Moda, I look with sincere optimism to the future of the Federation and the companies we represent, despite the complex economic situation. With renewed commitment, we will continue to support companies with a targeted and specialized approach, enhancing the sectors that embody our know-how. The sectors we represent today are the engine of innovation and creativity, essential pillars of the fashion system, which complete and enrich the clothing sector with an irreplaceable contribution, strengthening the sustainability of the entire supply chain".

Sergio Tamborini, President of Sistema Moda Italia: "In the face of changing market dynamics and geopolitical factors that require targeted interventions, the importance of representation and synergy is underlined today within a system that is the driving force of the Italian economy in the world. These are central elements to protect the needs of the sector, in particular with reference to the transparency of the supply chain, legal certainty, training and actions on international markets, issues that already see the two associations acting together at important institutional tables. In support of companies in the textile-clothing supply chain in Europe, our commitment to managing the complex sustainable transition that is looming and to addressing the new challenges that the new international structures are presenting for the sector will continue unchanged".
