It's not just regional elections that on Sunday 13 March will take place in Germany in the Lander of Baden-Wurttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt. First of all, it will be a test of the popularity of Chancellor Angela Merkel, who seemed to have gained approval after her famous opening of her doors to refugees and displaced persons.
But the second test of Sunday's vote concerns the far right and will serve to verify whether or not Germany wants to cancel a taboo by trusting Frauke Petry's AdF formation which, for the first time since the end of the Second World War, could overcome the psychological threshold of 10%.
