More Maltempo on half Italy. After the rainy May of 2023, 2024 is also setting new monthly rainfall records, particularly in the northern regions. Experts predict that the rains will continue in the coming days, intensifying in weekend and also involving the South. Although the most intense phase has passed, a westerly current will bring a significant drop in temperatures, which will remain below the seasonal average. For the moment there is no trace of the African heat; at least until next week.
Weather, forecast for the week. When does the heat arrive?
Today's day, Thursday May 23, will see new widespread rains in the North, gradually extending from Piedmont towards the North-East. In the centre, there will be cloudiness alternating with sunny spells, with possible showers especially in upper Tuscany and sporadically also on the Apennine mountains. In the southern regions, however, a prevalence of sunny weather is expected, but nothing summery. Friday May 24th it will be the best day of the week with dry weather almost everywhere, except for local showers near the North: among the most affected regions are Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto, but thunderstorms are also expected in Friuli, Valle d'Aosta and Liguria.
In weekend, showers could occur in the central-southern regions, a novelty after the bad weather in the North. Saturday May 25th phenomena are expected in the central Tyrrhenian regions and in Sicily, but the Alps, Apennines, Piedmont, Lombardy and Venetian plains will pay the worst price. The bad weather will slowly slide towards the Adriatic coast from Romagna to Puglia. Instead, Sardinia will enjoy clear skies and rather pleasant temperatures. Sunday May 26th, the storm front will move southwards, bringing several showers, while some rain is also expected in the internal areas of the Centre, especially during the afternoon hours. Finally, however, the sun will look out over the North West, while in Sicily the wind could create some discomfort.
The week will end with bad weather, but the next one could bring new: models indicate the arrival of high pressure with Sun e temperature above the average for the period.
