Enel-Tiscali, agreement for ultra-broadband

Tiscali and Enel Open Fiber (Enel group) announce that today they have signed a preliminary agreement for the supply of end-to-end connections for access to the FTTH (Fiber To The Home) fiber optic network created by Enel Open Fiber. In this way, the two groups intend to start a partnership for the creation and marketing of the ultra-broadband telecommunications network in some areas of the Italian territory.

"The agreement with Enel Open Fiber assumes significant strategic value for Tiscali because it complements the current development plan for the LTE 4G Fixed Wireless Access network that Tiscali has begun to implement," he said. Riccardo Ruggiero, CEO of Tiscali -. Thanks to the agreement with Enel Open Fiber, Tiscali will in fact be able to provide UltraBroadBand services throughout the national territory: through the LTE 4G Fixed Wireless solution in the Digital Divide areas and using Enel Open Fiber's FTTH network elsewhere, guaranteeing our users network access up to 1 Gigabit per second”.

The agreement is in line with the Italian plan for 'ultra-broadband' promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and with the objectives of the European Digital Agenda 2020, and pursues the Italian strategy for ultra-broadband presented in March 2015. In relation to the plan, Eof will carry out a 'ultra broadband' telecommunications network in FTTH mode in non-market failure areas with the aim of infrastructuring the selected municipalities and thus achieving coverage equal to 80% of the real estate units present in each municipality. Tiscali is part of this all-Italian strategy also through the partnership signed today, marketing its product in FTTH mode on the network created by Eof starting from the Municipalities of Venice, Catania, Cagliari, Naples, Perugia, Genoa, Palermo, Florence, Padua, and with the aim of extending the supply to the municipalities where the same network will be developed.
