The center-right reconquers Treviso and wins at Catania, driven by a clearly growing League. The 5 Star Movement is bad, out of all the most important ballots. The Democratic Party suffers, losing nine of the 16 municipalities where it governed, but avoids collapse by obtaining Enrico Del Bono's reconfirmation as mayor of Brescia with 53,9% of the vote. The dems lose instead a Terni, where the center-right-M5S ballot will go, and they risk a Siena, where in the second round they will have to contend with Matteo Salvini's coalition.
As for the smaller cities, there are run-offs between the centre-right and the centre-left also a Sondrio, Sponge, Ancona, Teramo e Toast.
In summary, this is the picture that emerges from the provisional results of the first round of the 2018 municipal elections. The counting is still ongoing.
At the political level, an electoral surge in the League and a downsizing of the strong shareholder of the Conte government, the 5 Star Movement, emerge from the vote. The crickets even lose a Rome, where it is voted into two town halls, one going to the centre-left in the first round, the other destined for the centre-right-centre-left ballot.
Five Stars also defeated a Ivrea, hometown of the Casaleggio family: here too the centre-right and centre-left will compete in the second round.
In the red Imola, on the other hand, the center-left and M5S will go to the ballot.
A Imperia Claudio Scajola, the controversial ex-minister of industry who stumbled upon the story of his house in the Colosseum and presented himself with a civic list, is once again the most voted and will be the favorite in the challenge in the second round with the centre-right candidate.
Vittorio Sgarbi is the new mayor of Sutri, in the province of Viterbo.
