With a growing focus on sustainability, electric vehicles will gain more and more ground in 2024. But the news will also concern hybrid cars and classic cars with internal combustion engines. Furthermore, with the new European safety regulations, in force since July, new electronic solutions and interactive systems have also been integrated to improve safety while driving.

Government and local incentives will help make many of these innovations accessible, demonstrating that despite any market difficulties, the 2024 calendar will be characterized by a rich automotive offer.

The new cars arriving in Italy will be different both in terms of type and price, covering a wide range of segments. Despite the growth of SUVs and crossovers, city cars maintain significant relevance in the automotive market.

Here are some of the most anticipated cars of 2024.

Lancia Ypsilon 2024

The presentation of the new Lancia Ypsilon 2024 is imminent, officially scheduled for next February, during fashion week (20-26 February). The rendering shows an aesthetically attractive design, with influences from the Lancia Pu+Ra and references to models such as the Nissan Juke and the Toyota Celica. The line, in tune with the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, is based on the shared e-CMP platform. The Lancia will stand out with premium details, both in its external appearance and in the innovative exclusive infotainment system called S.A.L.A.

As for the engines, the 2024 Ypsilon will be available in electric version, with a battery for a range of 400 kilometres, already used on models such as the Fiat 600e and the Jeep Avenger. One will also be available hybrid version with a double engine of 100 and 136 horsepower.

Furthermore, starting from 2025, the HF version will be introduced, totally electric with a power of 240 horsepower, giving the Ypsilon a prominent position in its segment.

Il price hypothesized for the totally electric variant it could be around 35.000 euros, considering the prices of competitors such as the Fiat 600e. The Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) version with a 1.2 horsepower 100 engine could start from around 22.000 euros, with a slightly more expensive 136 horsepower variant.

Stellantis is focusing heavily on the new Ypsilon, seen as a fundamental impetus for the relaunch of the Italian brand.

New Panda 2024

La new Fiat Panda (name yet to be confirmed) has been announced for July 11th. It will be an electric car derived from the shapes of the 2019 Fiat Concept Centoventi and will replace the Panda, but with slightly larger dimensions. The news, already widely discussed, is that it will be produced in Serbia in the Kragujevac plant, previously dedicated to the Fiat 500L. The new electric Panda will use the low-cost Smart Car platform, the same as the Citroen e-C3. The price should start below 25 thousand euros. and will be launched in July 2024, with a price less than 25.000 euros. With the incentives, a price of less than 20.000 euros is expected.

Alfa Romeo Milan

THEAlfa Romeo Milan it's the first one B SUV of the Biscione car manufacturer and will be officially presented in April.

The leaked images of the new Alfa provide a detailed look at its aesthetics, characterized by a bold front with shield in the center and thin segmented LED lights. The front door handles are of the traditional type, while the rear ones are integrated into the window frame. The rear area features LED light clusters made up of three modules, connected by a black band that crosses the width of the car, with the Alfa Romeo logo in the centre.

The Milano will share its platform and dimensions with similar models from other Stellantis group brands, such as the Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600, with a length of approximately 420 cm. Engine options include a 3 or 1.2 HP 100-cylinder turbo 136 mild hybrid, with chain distribution, and a 156 HP fully electric unit, powered by a 51 kWh battery with a range of approximately 400 km.

Considering the price of the Tonale, which is around 35.000 €, a similar cost is assumed for the electric version. For the hybrid variant, a price of approx 25.000 €, in line with the Ypsilon price list, since both have the same engine.

New Citroën ë-C3

La new Citroën ë-C3 it is the first model from the Stellantis Group to use the Smart Car platform, designed for new generation compact electric cars. With a length of 4,01 metres, the city car will be equipped with a 113 HP electric motor combined with a 44 kWh battery, offering a range of 320 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. The New Citroën ë-C3 will be available in the second quarter of 2024, with a starting price of 23.900 euros. In the future, an economical version with a smaller battery will also be introduced.

Peugeot 3008

La Third generation Peugeot 3008 it is, however, the first car from the Stellantis Group to use the Stla Medium platform, designed mainly for electric models. In addition to the electric variant, the range also includes petrol hybrid versions and, later, a 1.6 plug-in. The model will be available starting in February with a starting price of 38.700 €.

Renault 5

During 2024, one of the main innovations will be the return of the Renault 5, which will be launched on the market as a fully electric city car with a battery of at least 42 kWh. The car will be exhibited for the first time on February 26 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Renault 5 will be 3,92 meters long and will share 70% of its components with Clio and Captur; it will be based on the CMF-B EV platform for electric vehicles. Equipped with a 52 kWh battery, it will also offer a 40 kWh version. The estimated autonomy for the first will be around 400 km, while for the second it could stop around 300 km. Featuring on-board technology with the Reno avatar for interaction with infotainment, the Renault 5 will be available at a price of about 25.000 euro.

New Mini Cooper

Among the most anticipated models is also the new MINI Cooper, an iconic city car which will be relaunched in a renewed version and will include a fully electric model. The petrol versions will be produced in Oxford, while the electric one will be assembled in China. The range will include 3-door, 5-door versions and, presumably in 2025, also a convertible version.

Lamborghini Huracan 2024

In the hypercar sector there is great anticipation for the new Lamborghini Huracan, expected by the end of 2024. The car should feature a Plug-In hybrid powertrain, which replaces the previous V10 with a new V8 engine. The exterior design will be related to the Lamborghini Revuelto, with features such as hexagonal exhausts, Y-shaped LED headlights and air intakes throughout the body. The car will retain the carbon fiber monocoque and aluminum rear subframe introduced with the Revuelto. The adoption of the Urus' 8-litre bi-turbo V4,0 engine has not yet been confirmed, but the new Huracan is likely to have a bespoke engine to offer a distinctive driving experience and unique character.

Dacia Duster 2024

The third generation of Dacia Duster, expected for 2024, will undergo a significant renewal on the Renault group's CMF-B technical platform, shared with models such as the Jogger and Sandero. The restyling promises a more muscular and distinctive design, with an elongated presence that recalls its big sister Bigster. The most significant innovation will be the introduction of an electrified version, with a plug-in hybrid variant, including engines such as the 1.0 and 1.6 full hybrid, with the possibility of all-wheel drive. Price starting from 19.000 euros.

Hyundai Santa Fe 2024

In 2024, Hyundai presents the fifth generation Santa Fe, an SUV that will be available in different variants. The model will include a full hybrid version and a plug-in hybrid (seven-seater), both based on a 1.6 turbo petrol engine combined with an automatic gearbox. The debut is expected in the first half of 2024 also on the Italian market, but the price list has not yet been confirmed, with estimates indicating a start beyond 60.000 €.

Toyota Land Cruiser 2024

The launch of the new generation is expected during the year T. The SUV from the Japanese company will maintain its off-road character, presenting a renewed technical section and improved safety equipment. In Europe, the version with a 2.8 HP 204 turbodiesel engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission will be available. A mild hybrid variant of the diesel engine is also expected in 2025.

Tesla Model Y

Elon Musk's car company is preparing the renewal of its best-selling car, the Model Y. The updated version will adopt many of the changes introduced on the Model 3, including aesthetic and functional changes. The functional changes will focus on aerodynamics to improve efficiency, with a lower and sharper front end, new headlights and more modern rear lights. The cabin will be revised with improvements to the suspension, soundproofing and the addition of an 8-inch touchscreen for rear passengers. A 15,4-inch front touch panel and the removal of the stalks from the steering column are expected, with the controls moved to the steering wheel rim and central display. Mass production of the facelifted Model Y is expected begin in the summer of 2024 at the Shanghai factory.

Among the new features for 2024 there are also:

  • Ford Kuga, offered in a "full" rechargeable variant at the price of 37.000 euros.
  • BMW X2, available in petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric versions with a base price of 45.000 euros.
  • Volkswagen Tiguan, proposed in hybrid and diesel variants with a starting cost of 40.000 euros.
  • MG 3, proposed in full hybrid version with a base price of 20.000 euros.
  • Audi Q6 E-tron, fully electric vehicle with a cost of 80.000 euros.
  • Porsche Macan, available in electric version for 85.000 euros.
  • Skoda Kodiaq, offered in diesel and mild hybrid petrol versions for 45.000 euros.
  • Suzuki Swift, proposed in mild hybrid version starting from 22.000 euros.
