New order for SaipemThe Italian group, in partnership with Offshore Oil Engineering Co. Ltd. (Cooec), has been awarded an offshore Epci Engineering, Procurement, Installation, Construction) contract in Qatar for the COMP5 package of the North Field Production Sustainability project (Nfps) Offshore Compression Complexes. The assignment was awarded by QatarEnergy LNG and has a total value of approximately 4 billion dollars, of which approximately 3,1 billion under the jurisdiction of Saipem.
The heart of the project: offshore compression
The contract concerns the COMP5 package of theOffshore Compression Complexes and foresees a long-term industrial commitment, with a estimated duration of about five yearsSaipem will be responsible for the entire EPCI cycle: from engineering to procurement, through construction and offshore installation.
At the center of the project are two large offshore compression complexes, each consisting of a compression platform, one dedicated to personnel accommodation, a flare support structure for the combustion of gases and the connections between the various sections. Impressive structures, which will reach a total weight of approximately 68 thousand tons each.
The North Field and Qatar's Energy Strategy
The NFPS project is part of the most QatarEnergy's broad LNG strategy aimed at preserving and strengthening the North Field production capacity, the largest non-associated natural gas field in the world, located off the northeastern coast of Qatar. The goal is ensure the reliability of supplies over time and support the country's central role in the global gas and LNG markets, through increasingly complex and technologically advanced offshore infrastructure.
Offshore installation activities are expected approximately between 2029 and 2030 and will involve one of the flagship construction vessels of the Saipem fleet, the De He.
Strengthened presence in Qatar
With the award of COMP5, Saipem consolidates a path already started in previous yearsThe new contract adds to the COMP2 and COMP3 packages of the same project, already in the portfolio and currently under execution, assigned in 2022 and 2024 respectively. A series that strengthens the long-term relationship with QatarEnergy LNG and confirms the Italian group as one of the reference partners for the construction of large, highly complex offshore projects in the Gulf.
