Continues fleet renewal of service Trenitalia Regional (FS group). Since the beginning of 2026, they have been 31 new trains delivered, for a total investment of approximately 370 million euros. By 2027, the number of new generation trains intended for regional transport will rise to 1.081, as part of a 7 billion plan euro.
Trenitalia is accelerating fleet renewal: over a thousand new trains by 2027.
The renewal program, implemented through the Service Contracts with Regions and Autonomous Provinces, has led to the delivery of 674 new-generation trains to date. Taking into account the 335 trains purchased in previous years, 1.009 new trains are already in circulation on the national territory.
The convoys are distributed in different areas of the country: 359 are destined for the Centro Italy, 369 al North part and 281 al South and Islands. With further deliveries expected in the coming months and in 2027, the renewal will come to affect 80% of the regional fleet.
The plan is part of a service that counts over 6.000 trips every day and transports more than 400 million passengers per year. In addition to the renewal of the trains, the offer also includes over 150 Link services, which integrate train travel with buses, ships and other means of transport, connecting stations with various destinations in the area.
By 2027, therefore, the Regional fleet will be largely composed of new-generation trains, with the aim of accompanying the progressive renewal of convoys and the evolution of the regional rail service.
