Il Nobel Prize for Economics was awarded to the Americans Thomas J. Sargent, New York University professor e Christopher A. Simsof Princeton University.
The announcement was made by the Nobel Prize Organization and also broadcast live on the internet. A recognition for their research on “cause and effect in macroeconomics”, explained Staffan Normark of the Nobel Prize organization.
The first, born in 1943, is considered one of the most influential economists in the world; the second, born in 1942, is a professor at Princeton University.
Il Nobel Prize for Economics was introduced in 1968, and was won by an Italian only once (Franco Modigliani, in 1985)
As expected, the prestigious award went to two US scholars. However neither of them had been entered into the favorites list drawn up a few days ago by the Wall Street Journal.
