EU summit, armored Rome: 5 agents and overflight ban

Rome is armored. Ahead of Saturday's celebrations for the 60th anniversary of the treaties that established the European Community, exceptional security measures were put in place. The fear is not only linked to the threat of the black blocs, but also to the possibility that a solitary jihadist will try to emulate Wednesday's attack in London, spreading terror with only the means of a car.

The events in Westminster, explained the Minister of the Interior, Marco Minniti, confirm “a threat that is increasingly taking on the character of unpredictability: reaction times are getting shorter and shorter. Like Nice and Berlin, they are attacks carried out with immediately available means. We must therefore reflect on a strategy that is up to this threat: how to combine intelligence activity with territorial control”.

Meanwhile, the National Civil Aviation Authority has announced that the airspace will be closed over Rome and the surrounding areas from 6 am today 24 March to 23 pm tomorrow 25 March.

The questore of Rome, Guido Marino, has mobilized over 5 men from the forces of order.

From midnight, pedestrian transit in the Campidoglio area (Blue Zone) will be permitted only to those entitled, subject to verification of the conditions and carrying out of security checks. Same arrangement, but starting at 7.30, in the Quirinale area (Green zone).

Furthermore, the extraordinary closure of the main museums and archaeological areas of the center has been ordered: Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, Imperial Forums, Trajan Forum, Trajan's Market, Marcellus Theater, Colosseum, Domus Area, Domus Romanae, Capitoline Museums, Vittoriano and Scuderie del Quirinal.

The Colosseum, Barberini and Spagna metro stations are also closed.
