Sosteneo SGR SpA, a company linked to Generali Investments and specialized in infrastructure projects for renewable energy and innovative systems linked to the energy transition, has entered the capital of Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley Srl, new name of Alboran Hydrogen Brindisi Srl, which is carrying out its project in the areas of Brindisi and Taranto.
Sosteneus acquired the 40% participation of Alboran Hydrogen SpA. A minority share of 5% was, however, acquired by DRI D'Italia SpA, a 100% subsidiary of Invitalia, once the necessary ministerial authorizations have been obtained. The composition of Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley Srl is now as follows: Edison will hold 45%, Sosteneo 40%, Saipem 10% and DRI 5%.
The Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley project
Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley is one of the first large-scale initiatives for green hydrogen production in Europe. The project involves the construction of two plants in Brindisi and Taranto with a total electrolysis capacity of 160 MW.
Once fully operational, it is estimated that the plants will produce approximately 250 million cubic meters of hydrogen green per year. The project in Brindisi, located in an Area of National Interest (SIN), is at an advanced stage of the authorization process. Furthermore, Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley is positively involved in the IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) European funding call.
La Puglia region recognized the Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley project as a strategic opportunity to pursue its ambitious energy transition objectives, with specific attention to the decarbonisation of the Apulian steel hub.
Hydrogen represents one of the main energy carriers to achieve the decarbonisation objectives established by national and European strategies by 2030 and 2050. The Puglia Green Hydrogen Valley presents itself as a model of sustainable development for the large-scale diffusion of green hydrogen, exploiting synergies between the public and private sectors to promote a new industrial policy attentive to environmental and social sustainability, as well as the competitiveness of the territory.
Tamburrino, Sosteneo: “proud to be able to contribute to decarbonisation”
“We are proud to be able to contribute to decarbonisation of two large industrial centers of the country with a key infrastructure for economic growth at local and national level. We strongly believe in investing in the energy transition with the aim of combining long-term returns for our investors and at the same time contribute to the transformation of the global energy system. This project best reflects the values of the Generali Group to which we belong and our mission as an investment manager oriented towards creating positive impact for the community and sustainable development. In fact, the project represents a significant step in achieving the challenging decarbonisation objectives for specific industrial sectors (so-called "hard-to-abate" such as steel production), presenting at the same time important social implications, both in terms of positive effects for 'environment and health, both for the employment of the territory, bringing a fundamental contribution to the competitiveness of the area" he commented Umberto Tamburrino, Managing Partner, CEO and CIO Europe of Sosteneus.
