Stm, Oversonic's humanoid robots enter semiconductor factories

Humanoid robots are increasingly joining people in industrial processes. Oversonic Robotics ha signed an agreement with STMicroelectronics for provision of customized cognitive humanoid robots intended for the production and logistics processes of various semiconductor group plants around the world. This is the first time that a company in the sector has structurally integrated cognitive humanoid robots within its factories, opening a new phase for advanced manufacturing.

Il first RoBee is already operational at ST's advanced packaging and testing facility in Malta, marking the concrete start of a collaboration that aims to redefine the relationship between automation, artificial intelligence, and human labor.

RoBee supports people in highly complex processes

At the heart of the agreement there is RoBee, cognitive humanoid robot developed by Oversonic, designed for operate in complex industrial environments and shared with people. According to Oversonic President Fabio Puglia, "The partnership with STMicroelectronics is a source of great pride for us because it embodies the vision of cognitive robotics that Oversonic has brought to the industrial and healthcare markets. Being the first to introduce cognitive humanoid robots in a sophisticated production environment like semiconductor manufacturing means we are measuring ourselves against the highest standards in terms of reliability, safety, and operational continuity. This agreement represents a fundamental stage for Oversonic and, more generally, for the industrial challenges that these new machines are called upon to face in innovative and highly complex environments, alongside people and in support of their quality of work.”

The introduction of cognitive humanoids is presented not as a simple technological evolution, but as a concrete response to the challenges of highly complex production environments, where cooperation between intelligent machines and human operators becomes a determining factor for the quality of work and overall efficiency.

Advanced automation and global competitiveness

From STMicroelectronics' point of view, the integration of humanoids represents the new frontier of large-scale automationFabio Gualandris, President of Quality, Manufacturing and Technology for the group, emphasizes how the ability to implement advanced robotics solutions is a key element of the long-term competitiveness of ST's global manufacturing infrastructure.

Oversonic's cognitive humanoid robots are called to support complex activities and manage increasingly sophisticated production flows, contributing to improved quality and reduced cycle times. Their ability to cooperate with both traditional industrial automation and agent-based software systems is cited as a factor in enhancing employee safety, service continuity, and operational efficiency.

International debut at CES in Las Vegas

La collaboration will be officially presented at CES, where Oversonic and STMicroelectronics will perform live demonstrations of RoBee applications in advanced manufacturing and production contexts. The event represents the international launch of the agreement and will see the direct involvement of the robotics and automation systems engineering teams of both companies.

ST's presence at CES will be by invitation only, with meetings scheduled through representatives of the two companies, confirming the strategic and industrial nature of the initiative.

Oversonic Robotics: An Italian Champion of Cognitive Robotics

Founded in 2020 in Besana Brianza, Oversonic Robotics designs and builds cognitive humanoid robots like RoBee, which is listed as the only humanoid certified for both industry and the medical-health sector. The company has the own technological and production center in Carate Brianza, offices in Milan and Rovereto and a team of 65 people, with a strong international engineering component.

Already operating in several Italian companies and involved in hospital trials, Oversonic was included in CB Insights' "2024 Tech Trends" report among the 13 leading global players in humanoid robotics for industry and in 2024 entered the Top LinkedIn Startups ranking. This path, with the agreement signed with STMicroelectronics, is now being consolidated on a global scale.
