Saipem was awarded by Eni un contract in the UK for Liverpool Bay CCS project, with an overall value of 520 million euro to be spread over the three years necessary for completion. The project, which has entered the executive phase thanks to the green light from the British government, is one of the world's leading industrial clusters for CO₂ capture and storage.
The news had positive repercussions on the market: Saipem is travelling up 1,54% to 2,04 euros, while Eni by 0,41% to 12,81 euros.
A strategic project for decarbonisation: Liverpool Bay CCS
The contract concerns the Liverpool Bay CCS project, an integral part of the larger one HyNet program, located in one of the UK’s most energy-intensive industrial districts. The aim is to dramatically reduce industrial emissions in the North West of England and North Wales, areas with high manufacturing intensity.
In particular, Saipem will be responsible for the conversion of a traditional gas compression and treatment plant at Point of Ayr, North Wales, into an electric CO₂ compressor station. The new plant will allow carbon dioxide to be captured and permanently stored in depleted offshore fields located in Liverpool Bay.
The project will also have a significant impact on theoccupation local, with the expected involvement of over 1.000 resources premises during the construction phase, helping to support the local economy.
“With the award of this contract – reads the official note – Saipem will contribute to one of the most advanced carbon capture and storage projects in the United Kingdom, confirming its positioning along the entire CO2 value chain”.
The UK contract follows another major award secured by Saipem in 2024 in the CO₂ capture sector, consolidating its strategy of diversification and growth in clean energy.
