The debut of the new rules on hand luggage postponed by a few months. Ryanair has decided to postpone the entry into force of the single bag by a few months. It will start from January 15, 2018.
"We will give customers additional time to adapt to the changes, especially during the intense Christmas period", explains the Irish company which also points out how the new baggage policy is also accompanied by a parallel reduction in fees for checked bags from 35 to 25 euros "to encourage more customers to buy checked baggage and reduce the volume of hand luggage". Despite the delay on single baggage, the reductions on fares are already active.
Until next year, therefore, Ryanair passengers will be able to continue to bring two pieces of hand luggage into the cabin. From 15 January the squeeze will start, but not for everyone.
Excluded from the new policy are "customers who have purchased Priority Boarding (including Plus, Flexi Plus and Family Plus fares)". All other customers will be able to carry only the smallest hand baggage in the cabin while the largest (trolley with wheels) will be placed free of charge in the hold at the boarding gate.
Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair's Chief Marketing Officer, explained that “the postponement of the entry into force of our new policy to 15 January 2018 was decided to allow passengers to better familiarize themselves with the changes that will be made. Starting in January, customers who have not purchased Priority Boarding – continues Jacobs – will be able to carry only one small piece of hand luggage, thus speeding up boarding procedures and eliminating flight delays. We have already introduced the first phase of the new baggage policy which offers our customers lower rates for checked baggage, increasing the permitted weight by 33%.
