we receive e we publish the following press release issued by Open Gate Italy.
Open Gate Italy will be present during the days of 24 and 25 September al Syracuse Expo Divination, the event that precedes the G7 Agriculture and Fisheries in Ortigia, with two conferences focused on Decarbonisation and agriculture e Technological Innovation in the Agricultural Sector, which will be attended by representatives of institutions, important stakeholders, experts and members of the academic world.
“The world of agriculture and that of gas – he stated Lorenzo Romeo, Director of Corporate Strategy Italgas – can be great allies in addressing the challenge of decarbonisation. Agri-food waste and livestock waste represent one of the main resources for the production of biomethane, a form of renewable energy that helps the environment thanks to a zero carbon footprint. This green energy vector can therefore be fed into gas distribution networks, decarbonising the consumption of families and businesses. The condition, however, is that the distribution networks are smart, digital and flexible. Precisely the 'digital revolution' that Italgas has been working on since 2017 and which in recent years has allowed the network to be put at the service of the decarbonisation of consumption”.
During the talk, different strategies for decarbonization in agriculture will be analyzed, such as: regenerative agriculture which, by improving soil health, increases its carbon capture capacity and promotes biodiversity. The reduction of livestock emissions, possible starting from a change in the diet and health of the animals. An efficient use of water and fertilizers which are still wasted and used improperly. The adoption of renewable energy, an essential choice but still little considered by companies.
On technological innovations in agriculture, she expressed her opinion Greta Pignata, Head of Marketing Communication, Bayer, who will speak at the talk on the 25th precisely about how: “Technology is a precious ally to lead a real revolution in the agricultural sector, improving its efficiency, sustainability and productivity.” Again, the topics of discussion will be multiple, from precision agriculture that uses drones, sensors and satellite images to monitor fields and apply resources based on real needs; to AI, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data essential to allow farmers to make more informed decisions. To continue with all the robots that can be used for sowing, harvesting and managing crops. Added to these are genetic technologies, such as CRISPR and other genetic editing techniques useful for developing new varieties of plants that are more resistant to climate change, parasites and diseases, with better yields and a lower environmental impact. And, finally, those of Blockchain that guarantee maximum transparency in the traceability of products.
These and other essential solutions to make agriculture more sustainable will be discussed: on Tuesday 24 September, from 17:00 pm to 18:30 pm, at the Elio Vittorini Council Room in Palazzo Vermexio, where the event entitled “Decarbonisation and Agriculture” will be held, organised with Italgas as official partner, and on Wednesday 25 September, from 9:00 am to 11:30 am, at the headquarters of the INDA Foundation, in Corso Giacomo Matteotti 29, on the occasion of the talk: “Technological innovation in the agricultural sector”, organised with the official partners Bat and Bayer.
