It was held yesterday on first symposium on the Proximity of health entitled "One Health and Intergenerational Proximity“, organized by Bruno Visentini Foundation and hosted at the Luiss Guido Carli University of Rome.
I livories have been opened from the greetings of the Magnificent Rector of the University, Professor Andrew Prince, and by the Senator, Ylenia Zscopio, secretary of the 10th Permanent Commission (Social Affairs, Health, Public and Private Work, Social Security) at the Senate of the Republic, to which were added greetings from the Minister of Health Horace Schillaci brought by Paolo marini, President of the Bruno Visentini Foundation.
Innovative and fundamental One Health approach

It requires adequate implementation and, therefore, an approach that contemplates multiple perspectives, multiple actors, multiple points of view, precisely what I see in the work of the FBV, and which is also in the LUISS DNA" said Professor Prince.
For the Senator smile “The research conducted on an integrated health system and the volume of data collected are useful approaches for policy makers. Personally, I am here to bear witness to the importance of the work carried out by the Visentini Foundation's Observatory on Health, Wellbeing and Resilience. The data collected has been treated with a methodology that convinces me, and all the results produced in this and future discussions will be very important for my work".
“Man must be cared for within an ecosystem that has now become a fundamental and preparatory element for a better family context. The issue of health is a pillar of democracy and must be considered in the best possible way: I believe that these moments of meeting and discussion can be grounds for sowing seeds to facilitate the work of public decision-makers. I thank the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, which is assisting and treating us in our activities, as well as all the other entities that are supporting our research program, such as FASDAC and FASI." said the president of the Foundation, Paolo marini.
The Symposium is the concrete start of a change of approach on the topic
The symposium was characterized by report by Professor Duilio Carusi, coordinator of the Health, Wellbeing and Resilience Observatory: “This symposium was theconcrete start of a change of approach to the theme of One Health. Having close institutional subjects who are so apparently distant, but in reality united in the defense of national health, has highlighted the importance of a connection and national health planning capable of coordinating and including a plan in a single One Health strategy national health. The interventions of the speakers highlighted how health actors should also be considered realities not usually identified according to this perspective, such as the Navy with its Sea Care program conducted together with the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, such as Confagricoltura which in addition to overseeing issues of food security leads initiatives of social agriculture for the inclusion of fragility", such as the National Fire Brigade engaged in the protection of human health and life in the ever increasing adverse weather and climate events, or as Cassa Depositi e Prestiti with a systemic vision and complete with infrastructural interventions to support the country's health” said Professor Carusi.
“One of the stimulating things about being here today – concludes the professor – is the idea of bringing everything back to a theme of man-nature interconnection. Today's testimonies demonstrate the many facets and synergies between the actors, the technical and institutional languages that are difficult to see in contexts of this type. I hope that an effective implementation of the One Health paradigm can be given, for this reason I invite all those present to meet again soon, trying to draw up a document on this very important issue".
The event was attended by other speakers including Andrew Piccioli, Director General of the National Institute of Health; Roberto Dattola, Inspector Admiral of the Italian Navy; Laura Lega, Prefect and Head of Department of the Ministry of the Interior of the National Corps of Firefighters, Public Aid and Civil Defence; Sandro Gambuzza, Vice President of Confagricoltura; Simon Camerano, Head of Economic Scenarios and Sectoral Strategies and Department of Sectoral Strategies and Impact of Cash Deposits and Loans; Francesco Marchioni, Councilor of the Presidency with responsibility for health of the National Youth Council.
At the end of the work, a wish was expressed to support a full implementation of the One Health concept on the national territory by deciding to meet again to check progress through a programmatic manifesto.
What is the One Health approach
The One Health approach is one holistic health view which recognizes theimportance of global health, integrating different disciplines e interdisciplinary collaborations. It is officially recognized as a relevant strategy in the field of health, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Health, the European Commission and international organizations.
One Health focuses on intrinsic relationship between human health, animal health and the environment in which we live. It recognizes that the health of a population is closely linked to the health of the animals and the surrounding ecosystem.
The Istituto Superiore di Sanita (ISS) has initiated several multidisciplinary collaborations and joint actions to promote the One Health approach. The aim is to address current and future challenges through research, networking, integration and training, involving all relevant sectors, including the environment and socio-economic sectors.
