Inflation rose slightly in June. In its preliminary estimates, the national consumer price index for the whole community, gross of tobacco, prepared by Istat shows an increase of 0,3% compared to the previous month and by 1,2% compared to June 2012 (after +1,1% in May).
The slight acceleration in inflation in June was mainly determined by the recovery in the prices of non-regulated energy goods, which grew on a monthly basis by 0,6%, showing a significant attenuation of the decline on an annual basis, to -1,7% from -4,8% in May.
Inflation acquired for 2013 stood, however, at 1,1%, while in June core inflation, net of energy goods and unprocessed food, slowed down to 1,2% from 1,3% in May. Compared to June 2012, the growth rate of goods prices rose to 0,9%, from 0,8% in May, while that of services prices fell to 1,6% (it was +1,7% in the month previous).
As regards, however, the prices of the products most frequently purchased by consumers, the so-called "shopping cart” there is an increase of 0,4% compared to the previous month and 1,7% on an annual basis.
The IPCA, or the harmonized index of consumer prices, marks a growth of 0,3% on a monthly basis and 1,4% on an annual basis, with a very slight acceleration compared to May.
