Another series of negative records for the Italian labor market. According to the latest Istat data, in October the unemployment rate reached 11,1%, up 0,3% from September and 2,3% year-on-year. This is the highest level since 2004, when the monthly time series began.
The worst condition is, as always, that of young people: among the under 25s unemployment rose to 36,5% (+0,6% on month and +5,8% on year), the highest level ever not only among the monthly series, but also considering the quarterly data, at least starting from the October-December period of 1992.
In general terms, last month too the number of unemployed reached a new record, at 2 people. Broadening the perspective to the entire third quarter, however, the unemployment rate is growing to 9,8%. The increase was 2,1 percentage points over the same period last year.
Meanwhile, despite the objectives announced by the Government with the Fornero reform, the precariousness continues to increase. In the third quarter, the number of workers reached 2 people, the highest level since the third quarter of 877. In detail, temporary employees were 2004 (the highest figure since the third quarter of 2), 447 thousand collaborators instead.
But it's not over. Also in the third quarter of 2012, part-time workers they reached the record threshold of 3 million 847 thousand units: also in this case it is the highest level ever. Furthermore, according to Istat, in 58% of cases the choice of part-time work is not voluntary.
