Le low cost airlines, once synonymous with bargain-basement flights, they are facing a crisis that undermines their attractiveness. Ryanair, the Irish company, has seen profits fall by 46% this year, falling from 663 million to 360 million euros. Despite a 10% increase in passengers, revenues declined and operating costs increased, further complicating the situation. The EasyJet, Wizz Water, Vueling e AeroItalia they are struggling with similar challenges. While ticket prices may seem affordable, additional baggage and service charges increased the total cost of the trip.
Le main causes of this crisis include rising operating costs, delays in the delivery of new aircraft and travel demand that fails to meet supply. Passengers find themselves paying more for services that were previously included in the basic ticket price. In essence, low cost buses are no longer as cheap as they once were.
Faced with this scenario, the big names in the sector are forced to review their strategies: Ryanair ha lowered i flight prices, particularly during the summer months, to attract more passengers and counteract the fall in profits, even if costs remain higher than in the past. In the meantime, Wizz Air– after seeing its passenger traffic fall 1,4% to 5,9 million last month – is banking on aoffering which could rewrite the rules of the game.
Wizz Air launches the “All You Can Fly” subscription: unlimited flights at a fixed price. But is it worth it?
In the midst of the crisis that is affecting low-cost airlines, Wizz Air is trying to make a difference with an innovative offer: the“All You Can Fly” subscription. This formula, which until now was only available in some countries such as the United States with Frontier Airlines, offers unlimited flights for a year starting from September 25th. For those who purchase by August 15th, it is possible to obtain one of the 10 thousand season tickets available at the promotional price of 499 euros, while after this date the cost will rise to 599 €, regardless of using the introductory offer. With “All You Can Fly”, travelers can explore over 800 routes in more than 50 countries from 200 European cities, paying a flat fee of 9,99 euros for each flight.
Wizz Air's objective is clear: to attract and retain travellers. However, the subscription has some limitations limitations: valid for one passenger only, only for international flights, and has a duration of 12 months. Excludes Italian domestic flights and allows only one carry-on bag (40x30x20cm). Checked luggage, priority boarding and other additional services are subject to charges. Reservations must be made with a at least 72 hours notice, with the possibility of booking up to three one-way flights per day. Return flights must be booked if the return is within the 72 hour window. Once confirmed, the booking immense may be modified o railing.
