After Nice, Paris, London, Manchester, Berlin and many other cities, this time it was the turn of Barcelona, hit in the heart by an Islamist terrorist attack which took place on the famous Ramblas, near the famous Boqueria market.
A van, coming from Plaza de Catalonya, swooped down wildly around 17pm on the crowd in the Ramblas and mercilessly mowed down those who were innocently there, causing at least sixty injuries, including ten seriously, and 13 deaths. The bombers are on the run and the police are hunting them. There would be no hostages. All shops, restaurants, bars and metro stations closed by order of the Catalan authorities.
The situation is in full development. The authorities are trying to capture the terrorists but decisive developments are still expected in the next few hours. The man of North African origin, Driss Oukabir, has already been arrested for allegedly renting the white van that cruelly mowed down the crowd. Immediate solidarity with Barcelona from Europe and Italy from all over the world.
