Thought you were done shopping with Black Friday and Christmas presents? But No. In a few days the 2023 balances, almost two months of discounts in all Italian regions on clothing, appliances, IT, furniture and so on and so forth.
In almost all Regions the 2023 sales start on 5 January, with some exceptions to take into consideration.
How did the sales go in 2022
According to the data of Confcommercio, in 2022 the season of summer sales, after an initial uphill start in July (-10%), recovered in August. Each family spent 202 euros, for a total of 3,1 billion euros. In chiaroscuro instead the Black Friday which, compared to 2021, recorded 2,4% lower sales:
According to the president of Federmoda, Giulio Felloni, “we cannot afford further missteps. The recipe for relaunching confidence is to speed up the tax cut, starting with the personal income tax and the social security contributions borne by businesses, just as it would be important to extend the flat rate coupon to commercial leases”.
Sales 2023: when do they start? Here is the calendar
As mentioned, the date to mark in red on the calendar is the 5st January, the day on which the 2023 sales will start in most Italian regions. However, there are exceptions, such as Sicily, Basilicata and Valle d'Aosta or the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano.
In general, the duration of the 2023 sales it will vary from 30 to 60 days. We will therefore have until March to buy what we need and go hunting for bargains.

Sales 2023: tips to avoid scams
The garments that are offered on sale must have seasonal or fashion character and be liable to substantial depreciation if not sold within a certain period of time.
Please note that merchants are required to display:
- the original price of the product,
- the discounted price of the product,
- the discount percentage applied.
On the other hand, it is not mandatory to give the possibility to exchange the goods after the purchase. The card payment must be accepted by the shopkeeper. If the rules are not respected, the merchants can receive sanctions from 516 to 3.098 euros (1.032 euros if payment is immediate).
