Yesterday in Paris, at the end of the fashion week dedicated to Haute couture for spring/summer 2024, the fashion show was held with great theatricality Maison Margiela, from the Otb group, designed by John Galliano. For the group's owner, Renzo Rosso, the fashion show represents the true couture, with the highest values of the Haute Couture tradition.
The fashion show, with Galliano's signature, looked like a film set
John Galliano, the sector media report, brought cinema directly to the catwalk. The legendary designer transformed the catwalk of the fashion show into a sort of set, so much so that the show closed not with a model, but with an actress: Gwendoline Christie, no stranger to the catwalks, having already modeled for Prada and Vivienne Westwood. In this case, however, the interpreter of Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones appeared in character style from a Tim Burton film, with a milky white dress, mini bag and gloves that looked like large bandages. She made everything even more theatrical thanks to her acting talent, the media reported. A dark and expressionist show, full of references to the Belle Epoque and to the photographer Brassaï, to the belly of the French capital and to the Franco-Dutch painter Kees Van Dongen, whose tailored garments investigate the body and its forms. A pictorial collection that mixes old and new techniques, with a nocturnal palette.
Russo: Maison Margiela is true couture
“The show of Maison Margiela that we saw yesterday is the true couture, with the highest values of the Haute Couture tradition. In recent times, unfortunately, I have seen big brands industrialize couture, on the contrary Maison Margiela is remained pure, a brand capable of bringing real works of art to the catwalk from which to take inspiration for creating collections" he said Renzo Rosso, President and Founder of the OTB Group on the sidelines of the Artisanal 2024 fashion show. “With this fashion show the creative genius John Galliano scored a historic moment for the sector and once again elevated Maison Margiela thanks to its rare touch and its ability to always find the perfect combination between extraordinary silhouettes of the clothes, innovative treatments of the materials, modernity and technology. She was able to recreate something that has been missing in the fashion world for a long time, namely the dream. The audience welcomed this show with enthusiasm and tears, so much so that they no longer wanted to leave the location.”
With the single supply chain, competition with the large fashion groups opens up
“Paris is one of the world capitals of fashion and haute couture is its maximum expression” continues Russo. “We are very proud to have been present at this week dedicated to high fashion with two OTB brands, Viktor&Rolf and Maison Margiela, through which we showed all the beauty of Italian craftsmanship and creativity that distinguish us within this sector. Our brands and our creative directors can in fact count on one single supply chain – which produces 80% of luxury products globally – on which we are investing and betting directly because we are convinced that it can be the workhorse for compete with the big fashion groups and luxury. As OTB Group, we want to bring in France our baggage Italianness, we are already present with well over 40 stores of our brands and the Maison Margiela headquarters, but we intend to invest further in this territory which represents one of the main competitors for Italian fashion.” concluded Renzo Rosso
