ATR wins major order in India, the regional aircraft manufacturer 50% owned by Leonardo and ab. The company has signed with the Indian company Fly91 an agreement for the sale of 40 Atr 72-600, for a total value of approximately a billion dollarsThis represents ATR's largest contract in the last decade and the largest order ever placed by a regional airline. Deliveries of the new aircraft will be spread between 2027 and 2032.
ATR accelerates, 2026 orders already exceed 2025
The agreement with Fly91 significantly accelerates the order intake of the joint venture between Leonardo and Airbus. Since the beginning of 2026, ATR has in fact received orders for 54 aircraft, already exceeding the 50 net orders recorded for the whole of 2025. The contract will also change the size of the Indian airline, which currently operates six aircraft. Once all deliveries are completed, Fly91's fleet will grow to 46 aircraft.
India This confirms its increasingly strategic role for ATR and, by extension, for Leonardo. Around 70 of the manufacturer's aircraft are already in operation in the country, used by IndiGo, Alliance Air, and Fly91 itself.
The bet on Indian regional routes
The basis of the investment is the rapid expansion of regional aviation in India, where demand for accessible connections between second- and third-tier cities is growing. A market in which ticket prices remain a decisive factor and fuel continues to be a major cost item for airlines.
The ATR 72-600 is designed specifically for short regional routes, combining efficiency, reliability, and cost efficiency. The fleet expansion will allow Fly91 to strengthen its network and contribute to the development of domestic air travel, making air travel accessible to a wider audience of Indian citizens.
