Basilicata attracts Enea to the sustainable cluster

Fifteen Lucan excellences with Enea in the field to promote sustainable tourism. It's not just Matera 2019 that drives investments and industrial aggregations this year in the provinces of Potenza and Matera. For a few days now Enea has been part of the board of the “Basilicata Creativa” Cluster, which brings together 15 excellences from the scientific and entrepreneurial world. They are all present in the fields of culture and creativity. A virtuous sector of our economy, sometimes overlooked by the big networks. Nevertheless in 2017 the cultural and creative system produced 6% of Italian wealth. Over 92 billion euros, with a growth of 2% compared to 2016.

The performances are flattering due to the multiplier effect on the rest of the national economy. Every euro produced in the field – they explain to ENEA – has activated 1,80 euro in other sectors. The economy of Basilicata, characterized this year by a clear environmental and sustainable connotation, will have to benefit from it. The turning point of Matera 2019 is felt with the hundreds of initiatives scheduled until January 2020. Tourists and economic operators have not slowed down the interest in the smallest Southern Region. "Basilicata Creativa", moreover, joins four others already operational clusters in the aerospace, bioeconomy, energy and automotive sectors. The Lucan industrialists have committed a lot of energy to their birth and declare themselves satisfied. The regional model works. The experimentation of circular and sustainable economy will enrich the potential of the territory. For this ENEA will want to contribute to the sustainable tourism cluster, preferring the development of the territory precisely from the point of view of the circular economy. From the "La Trisaia" research center we will foster synergistic relationships with local communities, explains Carolina Innella, researcher of the Center, which is located a few steps from Matera.

The cluster influences a total of 50 actors in the area: ICT, design and management and promotion of cultural sites companies. The industrial mission is structural in nature. The recent history of these lands shows that it is in the regional context that it is necessary to favor the processes of improvement of the socio-economic impact, of technological transfer and internationalization. The capitals arrive and increase their value only under certain conditions. Those of Basilicata were mortified, paradoxically even when the money came from Europe. The presence of the major research body in the new sustainable group will have to consolidate local relationships and develop new practices to manage resources efficiently.
