They are about to be added new documents at It Wallet, the Italian digital wallet with legal value that allows you to have on your smartphone an electronic version of some of the main identity documents. There are still many missing, but the project is moving forward. In fact, they are being defined two new implementing decrees, currently at the draft stage, which will allow us to expand the number of documents present on It Wallet.
What's on It Wallet Now
At the moment our digital wallet, integrated in the Io app, only contains license, health insurance card, European Health Insurance Card, and European Disability Card. Citizens who request them through the same App can view them. To access, you need SPID or a digital identity card.
However, the one that can be accessed at the moment is only one basic, “limited” version. The government's aim is to initiate a new version of the wallet by the end of 2025, anticipating the launch of the European project, scheduled for 2026.
“The system will soon be fully active with the publication of the two implementing decrees provided for by the CAD (digital administration code) and with the'introduction of additional features, among which I would like to mention the citizens' access to online services of public administrations with authentication via 'Enter with wallet', the availability of the driving licence in the public wallet as a document equivalent to the identity card and the possibility for private operators to enable themselves as providers", announced last week the Undersecretary for Innovation Alessio Butti.
It Wallet: New Documents Coming Soon, Here's What They Are
They should arrive shortly two implementing decrees of the Ministries of Economy and Public Administration that will define the regulatory framework of the Italian wallet, while the Agency for Digital Italy (Agid) has just developed the technical guidelines for its operation.
The draft decrees provide for the introduction of four more electronic documents into the wallet in addition to those already present. Which are they? ISEE, qualification obtained and school enrollment, degree and enrollment in higher education, residence and enrollment in the electoral lists. For the identity card, however, we will have to wait a little longer.
