Ilva, Gualtieri: "Whatever it takes to save her"

The Minister of Economy spoke on the case of the former Taranto steel mill echoing Draghi: "A serious country must do everything possible" - Prime Minister Conte excludes Jindal's return to the game: "ArcelorMittal respects the commitments made".

Ilva, Gualtieri: "Whatever it takes to save her"

Chaos Ilva intervenes the Minister of Economy Roberto Gualtieri and he does it in the manner of Mario Draghi: “I think a serious country must do everything possible and necessary to avoid what would be a dramatic negative outcome. I liked the headline of a newspaper that quoted the words of the now ex-president of the ECB, Mario Draghi: whatever it takes…”.

Gualtieri said so during the hearing on the tax decree, answering questions from deputies on the matter situation of the former Ilva, on which however the clouds on the horizon are still many. After the French-Indian holding ArcelorMittal has decided - following the failure of the criminal shield, on the initiative of the Five Star ePd parliamentarians of Puglia - to withdraw, just over a year after his arrival in Taranto, and return the company to the State, there is no shortage of controversy: there are over 4 billion in investments in the South at stake, tens of thousands of jobs, the safeguarding of a strategic sector for the industry such as that of steel production and, the reason for the discord, the environmental issue.

“We will not allow Arcelor Mittal – the Minister of Economic Development Stefano Patuanelli said in this regard, writing it on Facebook – to blackmail the Italian state by putting more than 5 redundancies on the plate. Commitments must be kept and the downturn in production cycles can be accompanied with support tools, not by firing people. Especially when a full employment agreement was signed a year earlier. There is one thing that never changes in Italy: even when a multinational makes instrumental excuses and makes fun of the state, rest assured, the avalanche of mud on those who work on the real problems of citizens will always fall. However, after the free insult hangover, I wanted to tell a little truth, which never hurts in spite of everything”.

"We demand respect for commitments on Ilva, we will be inflexible", added Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, which excludes Jindal's return to play (which arrives in Rome on Thursday and which is supported by Matteo Renzi). Meanwhile, Italia Viva announces an amendment to reintroduce the penal shield, while the Democratic Party pushes for the soft shield. Among the 5 stars, resistance to the requests of the multinational continues to prevail.
