New wave of Pro-Russian hacker attacks Noname057(16) this morning at the websites of Italian ministries and institutions. At work, the Csirt team of theAgency for cybersecurity national, which is supporting the affected entities in restoring functionality. Among the attacked sites, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Infrastructure and Transport, Consob, Carabinieri, Navy, Air Force, as well as local public transport companies such as theAtac of Rome, the Love of Palermo, the AMT of Genoa.
Hackers, new pro-Russian attacks: what happened?
The attacks hit the same targets as a couple of weeks ago. The novelty is that they started earlier, around 7. Some sites reported disruptions for about an hour, but no particular critical issues were recorded. To mitigate the effects of the offensive, the IT managers of the organizations involved used various techniques, first and foremost the geofencing, that is, a fence is raised to access requests, closing the door to those coming from certain areas, such as Russia. Traffic redirection is also one of the methods used to protect sites.
Pro-Russian hackers: “Meloni helps Zelensky”
In announcing their attack on the websites of Italian ministries, cyber criminals criticized the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Telegram. “Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni – they wrote – confirmed the continued full support to Ukraine in a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Rome. According to Meloni, Italy will help Ukraine defend its interests and pursue a just and lasting peace. The negotiations lasted about an hour and were aimed at strengthening Kiev's position. "Italy should start helping itself and, first of all, its cybersecurity," they added.
The National Cybersecurity Agency is supporting the restoration activity of the various sites and attack mitigation.
