Surprise in Argentina. In the presidential elections held yesterday Daniel Scioli, a Peronist candidate supported by Cristina Kirchner, won but with a rather smaller advantage than expected and, above all, he missed the election in the first round. With over 90% of the votes counted, Scioli obtained 36,2% while his main opponent, Mauricio Macri (backed by entrepreneurs and farmers and owner of Boca Juniors), got 34,6%. Now we go to the ballot which is scheduled for November 22nd.
Third is the young dissident Peronist, Sergio Massa, who obtained 21%: the way in which his votes are now distributed will determine the final victory. Many analysts think that Massa's voters will lean more towards Macri than towards Scioli.
Not only that: Scioli has already lost where no one thought he could lose, that is in the province of Buenos Aires, where 38% of the voters of all Argentina reside, which the Peronists had governed for 30 years.
