Ecotax and Ecobonus auto 2019: instructions for use (VIDEO)

Which vehicles are involved? How much money is spent with the ecotax and how much is saved with the ecobonus? How does it work for motorcycles and mopeds? The answers to these and other questions in the new FIRSTonline video guide

The eco-tax and the eco-bonus on new cars came into effect on March XNUMXst. The two innovations were introduced with the 2019 Budget Law and, together, they constitute a bonus/malus mechanism that aims at “reducing environmental pollution – reads the MEF files on the manoeuvre – encouraging the purchase of vehicles with low CO2 emissions” and making more polluting vehicles less convenient.

In this new video tutorial we compare ecotax and ecobonus, taking stock of the main aspects of the two measures.

1) WHAT ARE ECOTAX AND ECOBONUS?

The ecotax is a one-off levy to be paid when you buy a very polluting new car, i.e. those with CO2 emissions exceeding 160 g/km of CO2.

The ecobonus is an incentive to purchase low-polluting cars, i.e. those with CO2 emissions lower than 70 g/km. In fact, only electric and plug-in, i.e. the most environmentally friendly hybrids. Furthermore, the car must not cost more than 61 euros including VAT.

2) HOW MUCH AMOUNT?

Here are the two patterns.

Ecotax:

1.100 euros from 161 to 175 g/km of CO2;
1.600 euros from 176 to 199 g/km of CO2;
2.000 euros for 201 to 250 g/km of CO2;
2.500 euros over 250 g/km of CO2.

Eco-bonus:

If another Euro 1, 2, 3 or 4 vehicle is scrapped at the time of purchase

6 thousand euros from 0 to 20 g/km of CO2 g/km;
2.500 euros from 21 to 70 g/km of CO2.

Without scrapping, however:

4 thousand euros from 0 to 20 g/km of CO2 g/km;
1.500 euros from 21 to 70 g/km of CO2.

3) ARE THEY ALSO VALID FOR MOTORCYCLES AND MOTORCYCLES?

The ecotax is not paid on two wheels.

On motorcycles and mopeds, on the other hand, an eco-bonus equal to 30% of the price, up to a maximum of 3 thousand euros, is provided, but only for 2019 and only on models that meet three conditions:

electric or hybrid power supply;
power up to 11 kiloWatts;
simultaneous scrapping of a vehicle between Euro 0 and Euro 2.

4) HOW TO CHECK THE LEVEL OF EMISSIONS BEFORE BUYING A CAR?

Attention: the values shown on the websites and technical data sheets refer to the standard set-ups. Just add accessories such as roof racks or wider tires to increase fuel consumption and therefore emissions. Therefore, it is useful to expect the seller to specify the exact data relating to CO2 on the car purchase contract.
