Digital domicile, this semi-unknown. Yet just over a month after its launch, the INAD (the national index of digital domiciles has been accessible to all since 6 July) has finished its run-in. It really works. It's free and the rush to activate it is really a good deal: stop paper communications from the public administration, which will be forced to replace the always annoying and risky paper mail with the safer and more immediate delivery on our Certified mail, which of course we must be equipped with as an indispensable condition for having our digital domicile.
Revenue Agency, Inps, deeds, and even the fines, even those of the unfortunate now ubiquitous speed camera of the small town in which we have passed once in a lifetime and then never again. Everything will come to us electronically. The only caveat: our certified e-mail, which at that point becomes our digital domicile to all intents and purposes, must be consulted continuously. Better still if we activate the pec on our Pec box message notification incoming or directly on the mobile phone or on our ordinary email box, the one that we consult several times a day anyway thanks to the now prevailing "beep" on the mobile phone. But what exactly is the Digital Domicile and how to activate it correctly?
Bureaucracy in the fast lane, but it is not an obligation
The paper submission of public administration practices will remain in force for a long time. For now, there is no obligation to have a digital domicile for citizens, while for businesses the obligation has already been in force since October 2020. It is simply a matter of convenience, speed and security of the delivery. And also of costs borne by the citizen. Because fines, registered mail, tax notices, tax refunds and more generally communications linked to official documents almost always involve a cost to be borne by the recipient in the form of "notification fees", while delivery via PEC - which in any case provides legal proof unequivocal assurance of the authenticity of the received message thanks to electronic certificates which prove, among other things, the precise moment of sending and receiving – it is and will be free.
All those who have can be registered in the National Index of Digital Homes turned 18 years old, with some important operational differences (we see it in the settings below) in the event a PEC is elected to Digital Domicile through an order or a professional register.
How to register your digital domicile in a few steps
All those who already have the PEC, or who activate it specifically, can transform it to all effects into a digital Domicile by registering it on the accessible INAD website here validating itself with one of the two certified authentication systems currently in force: the SPID or the CIE, the Electronic Identity Card.
For those who already have a PEC activated through a professional order or register, or even a public institution, the registration of their digital domicile it should already be active, without the need for our intervention, thanks to the automatic transfer of professional PEC lists which should automatically update. We use the conditional because it is still advisable to check by following the procedure that we illustrate below.
The registration procedure is simple and almost immediate, even if the first step deserves a warning: the e-mail address requested at the beginning is not that of the PEC but that of the ordinary e-mail that we intend to indicate for the automatic alert of our incoming messages on the Digital Domicile. We strongly recommend that you indicate the same ordinary email (if, as often happens, we have more than one) that we may have registered for the notification notices of our PEC, which we will indicate in the next mask. With the possibility of update and change then all our references, including the PEC address if we need to change it.
Even simpler the preventive control to any registration. In fact, the INAD site's home page allows free consultation of the list of all registered digital domains, without needing to validate with the SPID or with the CIE. Thus anyone, both private citizens and public administrations, can immediately contact via PEC all those who have one and have registered a digital Domicile. It is sufficient to know and enter the tax code of the person or company we wish to contact. And if we simply enter our tax code we can check if we are already regularly registered "by the office".
