Cybersecurity: Italian industry continues to grow

According to data from the chambers of commerce, in the last two and a half years companies in this sector have increased by 6%, reaching almost 3 units and achieving positive financial results

Cybersecurity: Italian industry continues to grow

The manufacturing industry is growing in Italy cybersecurity. According to a survey by Unioncamere and InfoCamere on data from the chambers of commerce, anti-hacker companies in our country have increased by 6% in the last two and a half years, coming close to 3 thousand units, after the spectacular leap (+300%) recorded in the three-year period 2017-19. In parallel, it also increased the number of employees: +7.000 between 2018 and 2020, from 21.500 to 28.400 units, for an average of 15 per company.

Among the Regions, the highest concentration of cybersecurity companies is recorded in Lazio, where 30 companies were based on 679 September, equal to 23% of the total. In second place the Lombardia, with 535 resident companies. They follow Campania (304) Sicilia (207) and Veneto (194)

On the front of insiders, the companies that have created more job opportunities are located in Lombardia, Lazio e Trentino Alto Adige which, with their 18 employees, represent 64% of the entire sector. There Campania, in sixth place in the standings, is the first among the southern regions with 1.474 employees (5,2% of the total).

With regard to financial performance, analyzing the financial statements of the 815 companies in the sector established in the form of joint stock companies and which have presented their financial statements in the last three years (32% of the total), in 2020 the value of production was almost 3 billion euros, in growth of 58,8% compared to that achieved by the same companies in 2018.

On average, this equates to a production value of around 3,7 million euros per capita for Italian cybersecurity companies. With 1,3 billion (44,8% of the total), Lazio is on the top step of the podium in terms of turnover achieved by companies in the sector. Lombardy is only second with 754 million, while the third region, far behind, is Emilia-Romagna, with 294 million.
