The Board of Directors of AgorAI Innovation Hub SpA has appointed Maurizio Cortese as CEO and General Manager of the company.
The appointment follows that of the company's President, Raffaele Fantelli.
Maurizio Cortese has held managerial and executive roles in leading companies in Italy and abroad across various sectors—technology, consumer goods, real estate, education, and financial services.
Maurizio Cortese brings distinctive skills to AgorAI in developing entrepreneurial initiatives, strategically leveraging technology, and fostering innovation through international partnerships.

The AgorAI project was launched in Trieste in April 2025 to create one of the most important centers for applied and basic research in Data Science and advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Italy and Europe, as well as cutting-edge training at the European level, through the contribution of an ecosystem of excellent organizations.
The project involves key players in the Italian and international landscape from three sectors:
- Private: In addition to the Generali Group, with Assicurazioni Generali, Banca Generali, and Generali Italia, leading companies such as Fincantieri, Fondazione Fincantieri, and illycaffè are participating, along with Goldman Sachs, research partner for finance and financial markets. Deloitte will support the business side of both research and the go-to-market of the developed solutions. Google Cloud joins the project as a strategic innovation partner, providing cutting-edge AI technologies, AI-optimized infrastructure, and training courses on the use of the most advanced AI models.
- Public: The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a key project partner, actively supports the initiative, recognizing its strategic value for the region;
- Academic, research, and educational: a network of prestigious university and research institutions, including the Universities of Trieste and Udine, the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), together with the MIB Trieste School of Management and the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), provides a solid scientific foundation for the project.
