Berlusconi has decided: he won't run for prime minister again. And he invites the party he founded to choose, for the first time, a new leader through primaries. «For the love of Italy one can do madness and wise things – says the Cavaliere in a statement -. Eighteen years ago I entered the field, a madness not without wisdom: now I prefer to take a step back for the same reasons of love that prompted me to move then. I won't resubmit my candidacy for prime minister but I'm standing by the younger players who have to play and score goals. I still have good muscles and a little head, but what I have to do is give advice, offer memory, tell stories and judge without intrusiveness".
«A coalition of the left – continues Berlusconi's note – which wants to go back to the logic of planning centralization which produced the mountain of public debt and the explosion of the corporate and lazy country we know, is asking to govern with a bevy of professionals of party educated and trained in the old egalitarian, solidarity and collectivist ideologies of the twentieth century. It is up to the Popolo della Libertà, to the secretary Angelino Alfano, and to a young generation that reproduces the miracle of 1994, to wage a serious and demanding battle to stop this drift».
December 16 is the possible date for the PDL primaries.
