After the first round on May 24th and 25th, we go back to the polls for the runoff of the municipal elections. Sunday 7rd and Monday 8th June Voting will take place in the 41 municipalities with more than 15 inhabitants where no candidate received at least 50% + 1 of the valid votes. Six are provincial capitals: Agrigento, Arezzo, Chieti, Lecco, Macerata, Trani. But attention is also on Vigevano, considered a nationwide test. The reason? The outcome could depend on Vannacciani's votes.
Municipal runoff elections: how the first round went
In the first round all eyes were focused on Venice, the only regional capital to vote. The centre-right won, somewhat surprisingly, with Simone VenturiniThe government coalition has also managed to wrest from the centre-left Reggio Calabria. The progressives instead won in Avellino and reconquered Pistoiawhile a Salerno Vincenzo de Luca, supported by seven civic lists and without the Democratic Party symbol, returned to lead the city for the fifth time.
According to YouTrend data, in the first round the center-left won in 37 municipalities superiors compared to 59 outgoing, the centre-right prevailed in 25 compared to 42 incumbents. Of the 18 provincial capitals, the center-left elected seven out of eight incumbents. The center-right won three out of five incumbents. Civic candidates or candidates from other parties won in two cities, while – as mentioned – six provincial capitals are still up for grabs.
Municipal runoff elections: Agrigento
Ad Agrigento they collide Michael Sodano of the centre-left and Dino Alonge, supported by FI-FdI-UDC and autonomists. On 24-25, the former received 39,1%, the latter garnered 34,7%. The votes of Lega Nord's Luigi Gentile, also supported by the DC and Noi Moderati, could be decisive, although he has rejected any alliances. Despite the evident split, the Lega Nord's regional commissioner, Nino Germanà, urged voters "not to vote for the center-left," while Noi Moderati sided with Alonge. Civic candidate Giuseppe Di Rosa, who only received 12% in the first round, also failed to form an alliance.
The runoff election in Arezzo
Ad Arezzo the challenge sees Vincenzo Ceccarelli of the centre-left (32,4% in the first round) against Marcello Comanducci of the center-right (43,8%). The votes of Marco Donati, supported by Azione and Civiche, who came in third two weeks ago with 20,5%, are becoming crucial. Donati has left the vote open.
Municipal elections: the runoff in Chieti
A Chieti, after having presented itself divided in the first round, the center-right has managed to reunite in view of the second. And so the candidate of the Campo largo, Giovanni Legnini, who in the first round came close to victory with 47,2% of the preferences, will have to deal with Cristiano Sicari (27,5%) supported by FdI and FI, and also supported by Mario Colantonio (16,7%, Lega and UDC) and by the Civic Alessandro Carbone (4,7%).
The runoff election in Lecco
A Lecco the runoff is between the outgoing center-left mayor Mario Gattinoni (42,5%) and the centre-right candidate Philip Boscagli (48,6%). The third-place candidate in the first round, Mauro Fumagalli, with 5,2% of the vote, decided to leave the vote open.
The vote in Macerata
A Macerata in the first round the result was sensational: the outgoing centre-right mayor Sandro Parcaroli He received 49,96% of the vote, missing victory in the first round by just 10 votes. The Regional Administrative Court rejected Parcaroli's appeal, which requested a recount of the 350 invalid ballots before the runoff. He will therefore face the center-left candidate in the runoff. Gianluca Tittarelli (41,9%), who in the meantime has signed an agreement with Marco Sigona, who in the first round had obtained 3,48% with the Officina delle Idee list.
Municipal elections: the runoff in Trani
No affiliation to Trani Marco Galiano (40,7%), supported by the PD but not by the M5S, and Angelo Guarriello (30,3%), supported by the center-right. Civic representative Giacomo Marinaro (21,5%) did not indicate his voting intentions.
The Vigevano case
The eyes of national politics will however be focused on Vigevano, a municipality of over 60 inhabitants in the province of Pavia, considered, on a small scale, a test in view of the upcoming general elections. The confrontation will be between Rossella Buratti of the centre-left (34,3%) and the civic Paolo Massara predicted (24,4%), also supported by FI. No official alliance, but the choices of the Lega members will have an impact, having supported Riccardo Ghia (21,4%) and Furio Suvilla, supported by Roberto, in the first round, together with Fdi. Vannacci, which surprisingly obtained 14,2% of the votes on May 24-25.
