Farewell to Gian Marco Moratti, president of Saras

Gian Marco Moratti, president of the Saras oil company, son of Angelo and brother of Massimo, former president of Inter, has died at the age of 81.

Gian Marco Moratti in addition to the presidency of Saras had held various positions, including president of the petroleum union, member of the ministerial committee for industry and the environment, of the one for the coordination of the energy emergency, of the national coordination committee against drug abuse, member of the board of directors of the Corriere della Sera publishing company, Banca Nazionale del Lavoro SpA and Internazionale FC Milano SpA, chairman of Norman Kraig & Kummel Italiana Srl He was also a member of the board of directors of the Iefe and of the Luigi Bocconi Commercial University of Milan. With his brother Massimo he was also general partner and vice president of Angelo Moratti Sapa

Gian Marco Moratti was the main supporter of the San Patrignano community, together with his wife Letizia Brichetto Moratti, former mayor of Milan. He is the father of four children: Angelo and Francesca, from his first marriage to Lina Sotis, and Gilda and Gabriele, born from his second marriage.

“I learn with great sadness the news of the death of Gian Marco Moratti. A great Milanese: capable entrepreneur and attentive to the needs of fragile people. Our city and the community of San Patrignano are losing a solid point of reference. My sincere condolences to the whole family and in particular to Letizia” the mayor of Milan Beppe Sala wrote on Facebook, among the first to comment on the news of the disappearance on social media.

“With President Gian Marco Moratti, Italy has lost a man and an industrialist of notable stature from both a cultural, moral and industrial point of view. An oil man who has shown that he knows how to look to the future of the refining related industries and of Saras”. This was stated by the President of FederPetroli Italia Michele Marsiglia who adds: “I remember our meeting, where I was received by a man with humble and elegant manners but at the same time I knew that I was meeting a high reference in the international oil industry. The thing that makes me smile and remember Dr. Gian Marco, is an anecdote that occurred when he saw a lace of my shoes untied and told me 'dott. Marseilles pay attention to the snare, I don't want it to bring with it a bad memory of this Office of mine'. This highlights the simplicity of this man. I remember we talked about his love for Milan and his complicity in both defining oil extraction as one of the most exciting moments in our work”.
