Merkel-Macron, EU: Modifiable treaties

The features of the European Union "are not a taboo" and, "if needed, they can be changed": this is the conclusion and also the promise issued from the first meeting in Berlin between the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the new French president Emmanuel Macron who yesterday he visited her.

"We want to develop a road map for Europe: we need less bureaucracy and more protection for citizens" said Macron who added: "We will try to guarantee a Franco-German axis that leads to reforms, which serve our two countries but which also serve Europe and the Eurozone”.

A Franco-German axis which, in Macron's conception, also aims to associate Spain and Italy as long as they set out on the path of reform and renewal of Europe.
