Zanonato: “Stop VAT? I hope Saccomanni succeeds, but finding the covers is difficult"

The minister in an interview with Repubblica: "It's not that I don't want to block the VAT increase, I'm just saying that it's very difficult to find coverage, given the short time available" – "First growth, then cutting labor taxes".

Zanonato: “Stop VAT? I hope Saccomanni succeeds, but finding the covers is difficult"

“I'm used to telling the truth and I also think that Italians want to hear the truth. It's not that I don't want to block the VAT increase, I'm just saying that it's very difficult to find coverage, given the limited time available”. This was stated by the Minister of Economic Development, Flavio Zanonato, in an interview with "La Repubblica".

"Saccomanni is committed to doing it and I really hope that he will succeed", underlined the minister again, then denying the rumors about his alleged clash with his colleague Maurizio Lupi during the Council of Ministers on Saturday. Zanonato specified that it was only a debate on eco-fuels: “There was no confrontation. There was also a discussion with other ministers, including from my political side. And I appreciated that there was."

As for the request by companies and trade unions to reduce taxes on labour, the minister observed that “the tax wedge should be reduced to restore competitiveness to our companies. But it can't be done with bowls still: first we have to gradually get the growth mechanism back in motion. This is the objective of the decree”.
