Youtube like Netflix? Off to pay TV services

Google's video sharing platform aims to monetize its immense popularity – The company's plans also challenge Sky and Netflix.

Youtube like Netflix? Off to pay TV services

Youtube is ready to launch its paid services. After ten years of life and over a billion users, the video sharing platform will try to transform part of its offer, thanks to the launch of two subscription services that will be launched by the end of the year. The news, already released in recent months, was relaunched by the technology blog The Verge.

For Youtube, therefore, the time seems to have come to monetize its popularity, given that the total revenues of the brand amounted to 4 billion dollars in 2014. Many, but few when compared to the immense diffusion of the sharing platform most famous video in the world.

Furthermore, the launch of subscription channels, which follows what has already been done with Youtube Music Key, could also mean the entry into the field of a new global entertainment giant, capable of competing even with Sky e Netflix, and to offer a wide range of channels to its customers. Soon Youtube will no longer be a simple video archive, but a truly global media.
