For the first time, a collection of works by Yoshitomo Nara will be auctioned at Sotheby's Hong Kong on 5 April 2013. These are 35 groups of works (835 lots) from the late 80s, ranging from acrylics on canvas and works on paper to editioned prints and products that exemplify the important phases of Nara's career "You may be alone, but you are not alone".
Yoshitomo Nara, born in 1959 in Hirosaki, he is defined as a contemporary artist of Japanese pop art, born in 1990. His debut took place in the 90s and from the very beginning his works were characterized by almost childish subjects, mostly children and dogs, drawn and then colored in crayon with decidedly cartoonish traits. But beyond simplicity there is something very profound that strikes us, especially in those works where the children "emphasize" weapons and knives, thus giving their faces harsh and ruthless expressions, anything but childish.
He is a very popular artist and present in many international collections and many other artists have been inspired by him, focusing on a real creative line.
