Yemen, former president Saleh killed by a sniper

Chaos in Yemen. The militias of the Houthi Shiite rebels blew up the house of former president Ali Saleh, then announced his death, claiming to have a video showing his body. Al Hadath TV first denied the rebels, stating that "Saleh is fine and is leading his battle". But in the end the party confirmed: "he was killed by a sniper".

The killing came after the ousted president announced the end of the Houthi alliance. For days the Yemeni capital Sana'a has been the scene of violent clashes between rebels and supporters of the former president. In five days, 125 people have died, while the injured - according to reports from the International Committee of the Red Cross - would be 238.

The UN has called on the parties to the conflict to "put an end to the violence and ensure the protection of civilians".
