Yahoo Answers closes May 4: "It's the end of an era"

Yahoo Answers closes its doors. The famous question and answer service of the Yahoo portal, which has become a sort of cult among those born in the 80s and 90s, will cease to exist on May 4th.

Starting from that date, the site and the contents on it will no longer be accessible to users. The possibility of asking questions and giving answers will instead be blocked as early as Tuesday 20 April. Yahoo clarified that “there will be no other changes to other Yahoo services and Yahoo accounts”. For the most loyal, however, there is good news: Yahoo will give until June 30th for download your content present on the platform. In short, if you have asked questions and want to keep the answers, the company gives you (for a limited time) the opportunity to do so. However, it will not be possible to save the contents produced by other users.

“It's the end of an era” commented many users on the main social networks. Yahoo Answers was created in 2005 and over the past 16 years it has been used by tens of millions of users (200 million visitors reached) to ask the most diverse questions waiting for the answers "from the web". Serious questions, but also jokes and ungrammatical requests, on the platform it is possible to find everything and more. The most famous question? “What's the name of the song that goes: sciura scero sciura go?”. It was, many users replied, smiling behind their screens of "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by the Clash.

However, the years have cracked the popularity and above all the reliability of Yahoo Answers. Yahoo itself explained that the portal dedicated to questions had become anachronistic and is less and less used by users who seek and find information elsewhere. The service was first cannibalized by the advent of social networks and then by the multiplication of increasingly specialized sites, capable of providing punctual and targeted answers to any question. Not to mention Wikipedia, which now represents the main point of reference for searches carried out from all over the world.
