Sunday the fourth edition of the Nature Festival in the city organized by the WWF - Initiatives throughout the country, but the central event will be at the Botanical Garden of Rome

WWF: 4 October nature festival in 120 cities

The IV edition of Urban Nature, the Nature Festival in the city organized by the WWF in collaboration with the Forest Carabinieri, the Ministry of Education, the National Association of Scientific Museums - ANMS and with the patronage of the Ministry of the Environment for the Protection of the Territory and the Sea, and ANCI. 

The initiative provides more 120 events divided among the main Italian cities and will involve associations and schools in events scattered from North to South. The event is very articulated and foresees explorations by bike, on foot, by canoe of hidden parks, rivers and gardens Italy.

For the 2020 edition of Urban Nature this year a novelty is added, specifies the note from the WWF. By virtue of the collaboration with the Italian Canoe Kayak Federation for the Rivers Campaign, in some of the cities crossed by watercourses the WWF volunteers and the canoe crews will organize eco-competitions combined with meetings and walks  along the waterways to get to know these environments better.

A Milan, Florence and Capua, the message to enhance environmental education in schools will therefore also travel on water, while in Verona, on the occasion of the 35-kilometre sporting descent, the Adigemarathon, the participants will meet the WWF in a stretch of the Adige river.

“Urban Nature is not just an event, but also an important initiative aimed at expand knowledge of nature within cities, reservoirs of biodiversity whose existence is often ignored, and to promote active participation, to aggregate and involve communities by involving them in the management of green areas, urban parks, social vegetable gardens and shared gardens”, the Wwf through a note.

Dozens of local realities and associations have joined the initiative such as AIGAE - Italian Association of Environmental and Hiking Guides, Italian Speleological Society, FIAB - Italian Environment and Bicycle Federation, Pro Natura Federation, Italian Canoe Kayak Federation and many others, who join to local WWF organizations to make nature known in the city through many activities (excursions, guided tours, seminars, treasure hunts and exhibitions) aimed at citizens.    

The central event will be held in Rome at the Botanical Garden Museum, from 9.00 to 18.00 on Sunday 4 October. "For the day, in an area of ​​the Botanical Garden, the WWF will set up one of the Nature Classrooms that are the protagonists of the project that it wants to carry out in Italian schools and which on the occasion of Urban Nature will be told to children and young people by WWF staff Oasis,” explains the WWF. 

Until Sunday, October 4 is activate the extraordinary fundraising which through the solidarity number 45585 is collecting resources to build the first 10 Nature Classrooms distributed from north to south on the peninsula. During the day, free guided tours of the Botanical Garden will be organized (for groups of maximum 20 people at 10,30/11,30/15.00/16.00) and the Living Chapel will also be open to the public, an artistic installation that combines Nature, Architecture and Music bearer of a universal message of education and care for the environment, particularly topical on the occasion of the day dedicated to the patron saint of Italy, San Francesco.
