The official press conference of the Women 7, an official civil engagement group of the G7 Summit established in 2018 to promote proposals on gender equality and women's rights to governments under the Group 7 (G7) process. The event has been called in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, which will host the press conference in the Spadolini MiC room. They will intervene Annamaria Tartaglia, Martina Rogato and Claudia Segre, Co Chairs Women7 Italy 2024, with the approval of the presidency of W7 Japan and of the internal committee of past W7 presidencies, to lead - in the presence of Lella Golfo, President of the Bellisario Foundation - the presentation of the activities of the Presidential Committee, which will make use of the participation of the country's women's associations and will extend consultations to experts for the preparation of the communiqué and "the events that will follow, according to the international protocol procedure defined", reads the note from Women 7.
The Nikko Ceremony in Japan
A few days ago was held, in Japan, the Nikko ceremony, in the presence of the G7 Ministers for Equal Opportunities, who started the process that will lead to the handover scheduled for January between Japan and Italy. Two nations that share two records: they are the oldest and most indebted countries in the world. “But they are also countries in which gender equality is struggling to make headway and it is the Women who pay the price, in terms of opportunities for social, professional and political participation", comments Women 7.
Precisely for this reason, the committee assumes crucial importance. Its goal is to ensure that G7 leaders adopt concrete political and financial commitments that lead to a tangible, lasting and transformative impact on the lives of women and girls everywhere.
The handover from Japan to Italy
According to the W7, the handover from Japan to Italy represents a witness who will see Italy lead a G7 which will focus on post-globalization dynamics based on peace and the reduction of social inequalities, but where inclusive policies will be central to an economic-financial transition marked by less restrictive monetary policies.
The W7 Japan 2023 Communiqué delivered to Prime Minister Kishida in the presence of Dr. Martina Rogato, Co Chair W7/G7, was finalized thanks to the contribution of experts from civil society from 38 countries, including the representatives of youth associations. “It is the same communiqué that gives meaning to this handover when it underlines how peace is something more than the absence of war but requires a decisive and targeted commitment to dismantle structural violence and injustice which marginalize certain groups of people, especially women and girls,” the Forum said.
And it is from this evidence that the work of the next W7 will start. Annamaria Tartaglia, Co Chair Committee W7 Italy , Founder and Board Member Angels4Women, launches a wish: "In the diversity of our practices and experiences we have managed, after 6 months of work, to produce a set of recommendations that see us united in the request for a perspective of gender, among other things, also with respect to the issue of supporting female entrepreneurship. There are several sectors such as technology, biomedical and finance where a more important presence of women would bring added value and a point of view that heralds the implementation of corporate profits and good practices on certifications and sustainability".
Martina Rogato, Co Chair Committee W7 and Co Founder and Board Member Human Rights International Corner, adds: “The time has come to adopt a gender logic to policies and solutions that concern every area, from the fight against climate change to peace and security, and to so that every talented woman can contribute to making a difference”.
concludes Claudia Segre, President and Founder of the Global Thinking Foundation, the third Co Chair Committee W7: "Preventing the dissemination of digital skills and financial education are part of an important process of self-determination and the achievement of full economic independence that will allow women and girls to act in full participatory citizenship also by promoting inclusion in the world of work at all levels and without suffering salary and career discrimination. This is why the works will see the participation of the most representative youth associations of the 7 countries”.
