WindTre: the Open Fiber model wins for the fiber network

WindTre strikes a chord for Open Fiber and for the wholesale model - a single network open to all operators - for the new FTTH fiber optic network (fiber to the home).

“We are very satisfied with the partnership with Open Fiber and with the wholesale model because – declared the CEO of WindTre Jeffrey Hedberg, in an interview with Sole24Ore – it offers quality, prices and degree of responsiveness of absolute value. Three years ago the majority of our customers had ADSL; then there was an acceleration of ultra broadband and now 65% of new subscribers have fiber optics. Where there are vertically integrated operators, on the other hand, one has to deal with higher prices, lower performance and longer times for the development of the infrastructures”. “Now we don't want to see any more years lost – concluded the manager – waiting for assessments and approvals. We don't want any distractions, but go ahead with the rollout. This is all the more important today, with people studying and working from home."

WindTre's endorsement comes while Tim has raised the level of contention on the network. Finally, on Tuesday 28 April, Open Fiber announced in a statement that its employees donated 61.000 euros to the Civil Protection for the fight against the coronavirus. A figure that the company has doubled by adding another 120.000 euros in favor of post-emergency solidarity initiatives, which will be identified and selected through the involvement and consultation of the employees themselves. In all, therefore, 180.000 euros destined for the community through activities that will try to give a little relief, the company specifies, to those who have suffered during these dramatic weeks.

Finally, the group specifies that it has continued its activity to promote the digitization of the country and activate connections to anyone who requests it.
