Whirpool, Zanocco: “Investing in Italy pays off”

The unions, the Government and the Whirpool Group take stock of the Indesit integration process: since last year's acquisition Whirpool has invested 123 million and will invest 135 in 2016 – Many of the company's productions have been brought back to Italy from China or from Poland.

Whirpool, Zanocco: “Investing in Italy pays off”

Investing responsibly in Italy can produce excellent results. To say it is the national secretary Fim Cisl Michael Zanocco, commenting on the first monitoring meeting of the Italy Master Plan 2015-2018 produced by Whirlpool Europe after the acquisition of Indesit which took place last year to verify, on each production unit, the progress of the integration and investment plan agreed between the trade unions, the Whirlpool Group and the Government.

“Today's meeting – stated Zanocco – was positive, confirming that, when one invests in our country, with a strategic and planning vision and with the responsibility of all the subjects in the field, the results can be seen”.

Up to now, 123 million euros have been spent by Whirlpool in 2015 and 135 million will be invested in 2016, in line with the budgeted spending plan for the 4 years envisaged by the Plan. The company's productions have been brought back to Italy (often from China, in some cases from other European countries such as Poland), resulting in a sharp increase in volumes, as well as growth in employment and investment in job training.

The group's factories are located in Cassinetta (Varese), Melano, Siena, Comunanza, Fabriano and Naples, while the reindustrialization of Teverola is underway. The integration process between Whirpool and Indesit, according to Zanocco, is not generating redundancies among employees.

“Today's results – concludes the secretary of Fim Cisl – are the result of months and months of work by a responsible trade union and by an important industrial group such as Whirlpool, which has bet on Italy and on the workers. When there is this joint commitment, efforts and sacrifices pay off”.
