Whirpool: Thursday 8-hour strike and demonstration in Rome

Tomorrow, Thursday 22 July, the 5 workers of Whirlpool Italy will cross arms in all seven plants in our country. The strike was announced in a note from Fim Cisl. The union also states that a demonstration is planned in Rome with a garrison at the Ministry of Economic Development starting at 11.

“We ask forcefully the reopening of the ministerial table – says the Fim-Cisl national secretary, Massimiliano Nobis – The discussion is necessary and urgent to follow up on the 2018-21 agreement signed in the ministerial offices. A large part of that agreement has not been respected by Whirlpool: in fact, the agreement does not mention the divestment of the Naples site.

On the contrary, Nobis underlines again, “they are destined for you 14 million in investments and a reindustrialization plan for 250 workers at the Carinaro site. For the latter, today only 75 workers have been relocated, with the insult of being on layoffs. While in the other four production sites of the group the agreed investments have not been completed and in the Fabriano site, in the Marche region, we register a worrying weakening of the quality and research and development departments".

According to the trade unionist, the ministry "must take charge of these serious breaches of contract and trace new occupational hypotheses to make up for these shortcomings. The resources provided by the Pnrr to support the industrial recovery are a unique opportunity to find part of the solution to the Whirlpool dispute”.
