Whirlpool sells Manisa to Arcelik's Turks

With an internal press release, Gilles Morel, president of Whirlpool EMEA (Europe, MO and Africa) and executive vice president of Whirlpool Corporation, announces that it has reached an agreement for sell to the Turkish Arçelik (which, together with Beko and Grundig is part of the Koç Group) the Manisa plant, city in Türkiye where they are produced fridge e washing machines of the American multinational.

The sale would have the aim - according to what is reported in the official text - of "concentrating and optimizing the group's activities and satisfying customer needs more effectively". Manisa became part of the Whirlpool factory park thanks to the acquisition of Indesit, which took place in 2014.

The agreement, effective immediately, will continue to provide Whirlpool with majap at extremely affordable prices but with advanced technology and performance. “The agreement we have reached – continues the text of the press release – will mean that the factory will be controlled and managed by Arcelik, having received some regulatory approvals, but will continue to make Whirlpool products. We really appreciate the work done in the Manisa factory. This deal will enable our strategy and give Arcelik the opportunity to integrate the factory with its other existing operations in Manisa to create new opportunities for the site. It is an important step in our ongoing strategy to maximize business potential in EMEA."

In 2020 and in the first quarter of 2021, Whirlpool's results were positive, with some flaws on the collection front due to the fact that the kitchen shops remained closed for a long time, unlike the showrooms of the chains and retail groups. But the lockdown has certainly rewarded the manufacturers of household appliances and we will soon see some good ones, because the factories that do not have chips are starting to shut down.
