It was written, we had anticipated it: Marc Bitzer was preparing to assume all the power of the dashboard of the Whirlpool group and today, July 17, he replaced, by decision of the world summit, the current president Esther Berrozpe Galindo at the head by Whirlpool EMEA.
Berrozpe had fallen ill while she was hospitalized for health checks in March just after the international press and us in recent months had reported the intentions of the Chinese Midea to acquire Whirlpool's European operations, if not the whole group.
But strong, understandable opposition had come from Europe, from employees, trade unions, politicians and the very top of the company. After the acquisition of Indesit, the group had suffered a series of substantial setbacks on the European markets and serious technical-industrial, commercial and communication "inconveniences".
And now who will stop the advance of Midea's Chinese on Whirlpool EMEA anymore? Especially since the rather complex situation will no longer be governed by the very skilled minister Carlo Calenda?
