Whatsapp, watch out for the "Carrefour voucher" scam

A message is circulating that promises a discount coupon, but clicking on the link risks activating expensive paid subscriptions on your phone.

Whatsapp, watch out for the "Carrefour voucher" scam

Another scam on Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger. This time the most famous smartphone chats have been haunted by a fake Carrefour voucher worth 250 euros. Anyone who falls into the trap and clicks on the link, hoping to win a discount voucher, is redirected to a page that asks for personal data to be entered and offers to send the same message to at least 10 contacts, promoting the spread of this threat which over the course of of the last few weeks has already affected thousands of users.

The worst aspect, however, is another: there is the risk of being sucked into an automatism capable of activating expensive paid subscriptions on the telephone. The alarm was spread by the Postal Police on its Facebook page "A social life".

The message may seem innocuous, especially since it comes from someone we know. Also use friendly language to convince potential victims of your authenticity. The text is this: “Have you seen it?: carrefour.it-vouchers.com. A 250 euro voucher from Carrefour. They celebrate their anniversary. Get it while it lasts. I've already requested one."

Naturally, the company dissociates itself. “Carrefour Italia warns all its customers about the alleged scam that is circulating online these days – reads a company note – This time the false issue of a Carrefour discount voucher is also advertised in instant messaging such as WhatsApp via the entry of personal data”.

For those who receive the message, the advice is to delete it immediately, also warning the involuntary sender of the danger. In general, the rule is always the same: if someone promises to give you easy money, don't trust them.
