Whatsapp: boom of viruses that steal money from the current account

Virus alert on Whatsapp and on other chats for smartphones, which in this period have to deal with a surge in malware, which is more and more dangerous.

The latest threat arrives from India: an Excel attachment that pretends to be from an institutional source, but is actually a trojan that steals the user's online banking data, allowing criminals to steal money from the checking account. The danger mainly concerns low-end smartphones with old versions of Android. At the moment the reported cases are confined to India.

But the dangers to defend against are always more. In recent days, the Police have reported a virus that runs on Whatsapp promising new ones emoticons (“here are the new whatsapp emoticons. Too beautiful!!!”: follow the link that installs the trojan, capable of stealing personal information from mobile phones). Cybercriminals are thus exploiting new WhatsApp features such as attachments.

Another threat is Faketoken, reported in December by Kaspersky: a trojan which, hiding in apps and games, steals the credentials of over two thousand Android financial applications.
